“It’s been a year when my first love returned to me and I still can't believe how it changed my life.”

A young Filipino fashion designer expressed his gratitude as he reunited with fashion, his first love, and continues to gain his momentum in the said industry as he illustrated 81 provinces of Philippines in his designs.

He is not just a typical Fine Arts student of University of the Northern Philippines, instead a person who is continuing to strive for the best thereafter achieving success in the latter part. A Joshua Asuncion of Ilocos Sur was born to make everyone see the beauty of everything when colored pens as his wands and the magical strokes of his hands worked together.

“If you dream, dream big,” his philosophy that lead him to light his way in transforming his dreams into reality. At his young age, he started to be fond of making arts. Walls, doors and borrowed colored pencils were his first canvas. At the age of twelve he already dreamt of becoming a fashion designer as his friend introduced it to him.

And as the clouds also dominate the sun to hide its light, Joshua’s light through his dream was once also covered with uncertainties and confusions. He started to be discouraged and he doubted his skills.

First love must really never die, or he was really twinned with arts or fashion as he was again magnetized to make designs. He created gowns inspired by some of the Philippines’ endangered species such as Tarsier, Dugong, and Philippine Eagle and posted them on social media, which caught the attention of many netizens and featured him and his works on some websites.

His thought on promoting his own province, which is the province of Ilocos Sur, through designing a gown with the place’s tourist spots as an inspiration was the reason why he illustrated 81 provinces in the Philippines. Earlier, in the month of June, he was featured together with his works in a TV show Bagong Morning Kapamilya. And slowly, Joshua is taking every step he need to totally make his phantasm into reality.

He started from dreaming, and with that dream, he put some efforts for it to prove himself. As part of his illustrations, in reality, there are lots of scraps of paper being thrown, pointy leads of pen being oblate until perfection is being achieved. He made things possible. He showed to all that everyone has its own beauty that even broken crayons can still have color.
