IT FEELS COMPLETE EVEN IF IT’S NOT

By: Robert Galamgam–Journalist/ @Jaguar Chronicles

The man who can stand in a stadium-sized crowd that held attention of thousands, in part because of humorous, yet moving speech about the power of hope.

Nick Vujicic, the 37-year-old president of motivational speech marketer Attitude is Altitude, was born without arms or legs from Melbourne, Australia where he grows. However, he struggling from the practicalities of everyday living from brushing a teeth, writing a letter or taking down notes, he has become an in- demand inspirational speaker.

He is physically disabled but there is no medical explanation, an extremely rare congenital disorder known as tetra-amelia syndrome. He has a small foot on his left hip which helps him to balance and he can type, pick things up between his toes and even kick a ball. The self-confessed adrenalin junkie regularly swims and has gone skydiving. He learned how to type on a computer, throw tennis balls, play drum pedals, comb his hair, answer the phone, shave, and get himself a glass of water through the use of a small foot attached to his hip. Moreover, his foot allows him to balance, type, kick, play football, golf, swim, surf, and pretty much everything he needs for mobility. He loves overcoming the challenges for inventing new methods to overcome his disability. He refers to his two toes as his “chicken drumstick.” Nick always likes making people feel good with humor, and he’s not afraid to laugh at himself.

Even for a complete body don’t have the confidence in life, and for Vujicic it didn’t come naturally. He was bullied at school, struggled and depressed. When he was just 10 years old, he attempted suicide to end his life. Due to his disability and laws where he grew up in Australia, he was not allowed to enter mainstream school until later, becoming one of the first disabled children to be integrated into the program. He learned to write using the two toes on his left foot. He questioned himself, why he was so different. Vujicic felt alone and often wondered what his purpose was in life, or if there was any purpose at all. When he was 8 years old he started contemplating suicide. He begged God to grow arms and legs, but over time Nick learned that his accomplishments were inspirational to many, and he began thanking God for being alive. Over time, Vujicic worked on adopting a positive attitude, and, at 17, an encounter with his high school janitor inspired him to go into public speaking.

His life was changed when his mother showed him in a newspaper article that turns into a major turning point of Nick’s life. A disabled, struggled, depressed, bullied, suicidal Australian man now travels the world addressing huge crowds, including business groups and schoolchildren. A man who with severe disabilities and how he dealt with it. This led him to realize that he wasn’t the only one with major struggles. He has visited more than 50 countries and given thousands of talks and still counting.

The author of memoir Love Without Limits now lives in California with his wife, Kanae, and their 7-year-old son. Vujicicnot only graduated from college with a double major in Accounting and Financial Planning, andruns a non-profit ministry, Life Without Limbs, as well as Attitude is Altitude, which markets his motivational speeches and campaigns against bullying. Realizing there were other people that were in worse shape than him, Nick stopped feeling sorry for himself and began to face all challenges head on. He has since traveled around the world speaking to millions of people, giving them inspiration, courage, and the hope he’s always dreamed of. “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!”
