How to Stay Fit and Healthy during Pandemic

By: Abrina Bayeng–Journalist/ @Jaguar Chronicles

Staying fit and healthy is one of the most demands of people now that we are in quarantine and facing a global crisis. Most people are saying that since the pandemic started, they gained weight, been in an emotionally unstable condition, and started to eat unhealthy foods.

Here are 5 things you can do to stay fit and healthy during these trying times:

1. Exercise Daily

- Exercise daily for at least 30 minutes to an hour. You can start slowly, and find ways to fit more physical activity into your life. Exercise plays an important role in controlling your weight and preventing obesity. It strengthens your heart, improves your circulation, can lower your blood sugar level and help your insulin work better.

Tip: During exercise, your body releases chemicals that can improve your mood and make you feel more relaxed. This can help you deal with stress and reduce your risk of depression.

2. Eat a Healthy Diet

- Get as many fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet as possible and make them part of your meals. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is one of the most important things you can do to protect your health.

Tip:Make an eating plan each week – this is the key to fast, easy meal preparation.

3. Have a good rest and sleep

- Six to eight hours of sleep will keep the body going throughout the day. You will have a better productivity and concentration. While you’re sleeping, your body is producing extra protein molecules that can strengthen your ability to fight infections.

Tip:Sleep allows the body to heal, repair and rejuvenate itself in a way it simply cannot when a person is awake.

4. Stay Positive and Motivated

- An important key to being in shape is to set goals and keep a positive mindset. You will become a much happier person in general. You learn to see the good in everything and only embrace the good from the bad. There is nothing that can bring you down any longer because you don’t allow the dark elements to affect you the same way.

Tip: If you stay positive, you will be able to push yourself to get that fit and healthy body you've always wanted.

5. Make time for your family, friends and relatives

- Since you are staying at home, you should lessen your time in using technology and social media platforms. Interacting with a close social network especially face-to-face communicationsignificantly reduces the occurrence of depression, anxiety, and other mental illness. Being physically and mentally present with your loved ones creates a strong emotional support to help you up through life’s challenges.

Tip: Time is an essential factor that helps to create strong bonds, love, connections, and relationship among your family members, your friends and your relatives.

Being fit and healthy isn’t a trend, it’s a lifestyle. It may be a challenge but you can make progress and not excuses! :)
