UC staff and volunteers lend a helping hand to stranded students amid lockdown in Baguio City

By: Abrina Bayeng –Journalist/ @Jaguar Chronicles July 31, 2020

A testament to UC’s commitment in ensuring the welfare of its students, UC staff and volunteers delivered food packs directly to stranded students amid lockdown in Baguio city following the health protocols: wearing of face masks and social distancing.

This is because during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), a lot of students currently studying at the University of the Cordilleras (UC) were stranded in their apartments.

The city council appealed to all universities and colleges in the Summer Capital to continuously monitor stranded students and provide them assistance. Councilor Levy Lloyd Orcales, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president and chairman of the Committee on Youth Welfare and Sports Development, said his office identified 1,066 stranded students all over the city and created a list that includes the students’ Baguio and provincial addresses, contact numbers and schools.

Stranded students from different schools and universities in Baguio City were sent back to their respective municipalities and cities. This in response to Resolution 171 series of 2020 passed by the City Council, urging the universities to assist their students by providing transportation to allow them to return to their respective provinces in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The different colleges from the University of the Cordilleras that distributed food packs and face masks together with their respective deans and alumni were the College of Law (COL), College on Nursing (CON), College of Accountancy (COA), College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM), College of Business Administration (CBA), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Teacher Education (CTE), College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), and College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS).
